Who'll Stop The Rain

Weather forced the postponement of several events last week, including the district championship cross country meet (meet?  match?  race?  Can anyone help me out here?).  Marginal conditions prevailed on the raindate, leaving all of us wondering, who'll stop the rain?

It turned out that no one stopped the rain.  The race went on in spite of the wet day, leading to an especially interesting day for pictures.

Cross country is a new sport here at FotoFink, and after witnessing a race, there is a new found respect for these athletes.  A course of over three miles, up and down hills, through the poor weather- this was a brutal test of endurance for the competitors.  The emotion and exhaustion at the finish line was incredibly raw- runners skidding and falling into the muddy mess, finishing without shoes, even losing their last meal as they crossed the finish.  Not for the timid.

As a newbie to this event, I was anxious to learn more about the inner workings.  Thankfully, I was able to pick up some technical terms during the day.  Waiting near the finish line, I overheard the organizers searching for the "thingy" before the boys crossed.  They never found it, but my curiosity was piqued- What was this coveted item?  Thankfully, they found it for the girl's finish and all was well.

Our staff made a valiant effort to name all of the participants, but you will notice a few without tags in the gallery.  Please accept apologies- If you can comment and leave some names, I'll try to add some keywords so that searching will work.

This picture is kind of interesting, but if you have any interest in purchasing it, you will need to contact me directly (sfinkernagel@hotmail.com).  Smugmug doesn't have a good option for that size print, but I can find another lab that does.  It's a composite of several shots, so it will look good up to some really large sizes- 36 inches & larger if you'd like.

Lastly, I only know a few of you who have athletes in this sport.  Any way that you can spread the word to the people who will want to see these pictures will be appreciated.

I'll stop here, as this is the third blog entry on the day for me.

Event pictures are here.

FotoFink is here.

Enjoy!
